After much reflection (and fruitful but frustrating practice), I've come to the conclusion that my stroke's fatal flaw is my grip. Everything else seems to be adequate; my pre-shot routine, stance, and cue delivery are, for the most part, uniform. I wish I could say that no matter how tired or annoyed I was that they never deviated from their best forms, but I'd be lying. I won't deny that sometimes I wish I were a robot, or at least a cyborg. Perfection would be so fucking sweet. Or maybe it wouldn't.
I've found that my grip is always changing somehow. I didn't realize how much I "roll" the butt of my cue in my hands before deciding to shoot until I really focused on it. Also, I'm feeling with a disturbing sensitivity how much I twitch right before the moment my tip comes into contact with the cue ball, a phenomenon that, despite every fraction of me knowing exactly how I want to deliver it, ends up sending the damn thing in unbelievable directions, even when it feels like my stroke is true.
It's comforting to know that I've zeroed in on what's most (currently) plaguing my game, and when I practice from now on I'll be sure to pay special attention to how my wrist and fingers cradle my stick.
What about you? What would you say is the worst thing about your stroke?
