How long did it take you to build a consistently straight stroke?

I've been practicing building a straight stroke for almost two years now (sometimes it feels like at the expense of mastering cuts and other more advanced shots) but I'm still so frustratingly inaccurate more often than not. It takes so much effort for me to get down and shoot a perfect straight shot. I guess I'm just wondering how long it took all of you to hit that effortless milestone.
