Headset woes

Ok so here’s what’s happening. I have a little Trek Precaliber for my kiddo. Bought it used. I went through the entire bike bit by bit and it’s decent. However, when I serviced the headset, I realised that the compression ring is missing and it’s knocking around pretty bad ( I assumed it was lack of preload on the bearing causing it). Regardless, it’s for a 1” threadless headset. I have looked absolutely everywhere to find one. Trek is of no help.
