First, I do love this Diverge; it's been through hell with me on various bikepacking trips and treks. Lots of wins, a few failures in terms of completing some rides. One of the failures has been a recent 2-day 117mi trip I was taking on it with a local group. About 20 miles of the ride was on chonk gravel. The bike held up just fine. I got completely beat up due to lack of any suspension to take up the gravel chatter. It was so bad that I had to bail on Day 2...my arms and hands were completely wrecked. I was rattled, quite literally, to my bones.
I started with a 2021 E5 Base and upgraded to GRX400 group set along with a Roval Terra C wheel set. 700x38C stock Pathfinders for rubber. WTB Pure saddle. Stock handlebars. Crank Bros Stamp 7 pedals.
I also have a Priority 600X touring/trail bike with a Pinion/Gates Carbon Drive setup. Stock as well. 600% gear range and WTB Ranger 29 x 2.25 tires. Wren Inverted Fork with 110mm of travel.
My main mission with this bike is everyday riding, touring, and the occasional bikepacking trip on some trails. Rolling terrain only...no jumps ever.
QUESTION: Do I upgrade the Diverge to a Redshift suspension stem and seat post system 47C tires? (That's the only way I can fully maximize the comfort on chonk going forward, I believe.)
OR
Do I sell the Diverge and just focus on the Priority 600X?
The easy answer is keep both, but I do not want or need two bikes. I know...crazy.
Would love to hear what the brain trust has to say. Thanks in advance.
