I'm trying to setup a bike packing kit on a budget. I don't need fancy with slide on tracks and all that. I'm a fair weather biker and as likely to backpack as bikepack. I live less than 30 minutes from the start of the Rock Island - Katy Trail network in Missouri so that's my likely trip destination, I have gravel tires on it.
The current photos below is my day to day setup for day trips. I added the handlebar bag since the first photo.
I like the triangle bag and bottle setup so I'm not replacing it unless I need to. The handlebar bag is fine, I can strap trekking poles and my tent to it.
Bike Bag
I have plenty of camping gear and figured with stuff sack filling that I need 40 liters of storage for gear and food so 2x 20 liter maybe? 2x 25 would be good too. If there's an outstanding 2x 15 liter option I can wear a day pack for more space if I need to.
I will replace the rack if I need to. It's a cheap one. I can put it on a different bike we have. New needs to have a light mounting point.
I have one mounting point on each side of my front fork.
Fenders
I'm also looking for fenders that work with the whole system and don't make dealing with tires a pain. There's a mounting hole on each fork and the single hole at the axle. They're 700x38c tires.
