Post Body

This morning, I fell from my road bike after I did too aggressive of a turn on a metal drain cover in a misty haze. I was going between 15 and 20 mph when I had to take a right, and I guess my turn was jerky enough that, combined with the slippery surface of the metal, my wheel gave way a bit and I lost balance. I landed on my left side with just a few scratches, but my bike had some issues.

  • My handlebars started sliding (?) or became loose. You could adjust the angle of the entire bar; if you put your hands on the tops, you could push it down, and if you put your hands in the drops, it wasn't stable and you could push it up. I fixed this by tightening the screws with an Allen key.
  • My chain came loose. I put it back on with gloves.
  • The brakes on my back wheel became uncentered, with one brake block touching the wheel and the other noticeably away from the wheel. I have dual pivot brakes, so I just loosened the little plastic comma and rode home, where I adjusted the centering on the top with a very small Allen key.

Was there anything I missed? I was able to ride to the grocery store after with no problems. And what do you check after you fall or have a crash?
