I've been using a Dahon Jack D7, large size, for the last 3-4 years until it was stolen from outside my building when I locked it up poorly. I loved that bike and I am now looking for a replacement under $1000, ideally around $750. I would prefer a folding bike given that my 1br apartment is tight on space and I am paranoid about leaving it outside overnight or long periods of time. Unfortunately, my building does not offer any bike storage.
I am 6', 215 lbs so a full-size bike would be best, especially living in the city where the roads can be terrible and unkind to smaller wheel sizes. The bike ride to work would be ~15 min but I used my bike for nearly everything, so I expect to use it for 30-60 min rides as well.
I've been looking at the Montague bikes, particularly the Urban model, but many reviews claim that their stock parts are incredibly cheap for the $750 price tag and the folding time seems pretty long coming from the Dahon Jack's 5 sec snap n fold design. Many posts I've reviewed are 4 years old, so I was hoping for some more current information, especially given that many brands, like Dahon, have stopped making full-size folding bikes altogether.
Thanks ahead of time!
