Recommendations for a bike around town?

Hey everyone. I wanted to see if you all had any recommendations on a city bike? I thought about getting an electra because of the upright position. Do I need a front suspension just in case I go rolling down a grassy hill or off of a curb?
2 things I'm looking for 1) Comfort 2) Speed
I saw the CYPRESS DX from Giant. Is that up my alley? I currently have a Diamonback Release 1, but pedaling that thing can be a bit tough on pavement.
