Nose cancelling headphones?

I don't know how to write this more nicely so I'll write it bluntly: My wife has autism, and when our baby cries really loud in her ear when we try to put him down for the night, it sends her into an autistic breakdown every single time. I've tried giving her noise cancelling headphones, but they're too big to wear when trying to put him down. I tried earplugs but she can't stand things in her ears. Do any other parents know what kind of maybe low profile headphones would be good for this?
