I am a mom to a 2 year old and an 8 week old. Today I had a physical therapy appointment and a haircut scheduled, so my mom came to watch the kids for me. I’m exhausted, look like I blindfold myself and just put on whatever is in reach on any given morning, have leaky boobs, and just want time away from my kids.
My mom gave me extra time to run to Target after my haircut to grab an anniversary card for husband. I took full advantage since I’d pumped and left her a bottle of milk.
Wandered Target for a while. It was glorious. I got ideas for Christmas gifts and upcoming holiday parties. I found the perfect anniversary card. And then I meandered up to checkout.
The woman in front of me had her daughter with her and was buying a cartload full of items. She glanced back at me with my one card and asked if I wanted to go ahead of her since I just had the one thing. I smiled and told her no, that I wasn’t in a hurry.
She and the cashier kind of exchanged glances in an “Okay then” fashion, so I elaborated with “I’m getting some time away from my kiddos.”
To that they both grinned knowingly, and the other customer said, “Yeah, sometimes Target is a vacation.”
Exactly. Target people get it.
