Our pediatrician basically told us we should try a version of CIO where we ramp down our 7-month-old's night feedings and spend gradually less time with him at night until he's fine on his own.
Well tonight he cried forever, it seemed like, with dad and I coming in to pat him on the back, bounce him, rock him, sing to him - everything but food since we knew he had just eaten before we put him down and he probably wasn't hungry yet.
Pretty much every time we picked him up he settled down immediately, but when we put him in bed he freaked out again, wide awake, pissed, staring at us with big tears and a look of absolute betrayal as we walked out of his room each time. I was cursing the doctor.
Then I remembered somebody here saying they had to lay in their baby's bed to warm it up, so while dad was holding him, I put a heating pad in his crib to warm up the mattress, then we took the heating pad out and laid babe down onto his now warm mattress. He wasn't asleep, but he snuggled right in with the most contented expression on his face we've ever seen. Now he's snoring away like nothing ever happened.
So. Warm mattress FTW... so far...
