-Both shows have a protagonist with a self-destructive flaw (Walt's enormous ego and pride/Jimmy's compulsive nature to always scheme or manipulate others).
-Both men are their own worst enemy as that flaw gets bigger with each season.
-Both shows have a Series Finale in which these men finally come to some moment of clarity on their flaw and admit it (Walt finally admitting to his wife "I did it for me."/Jimmy owning up to everything he did while in the courtroom). I wouldn't say they "overcome" their respective flaw, but this moment of clarity feels like a breakthrough and big payoff for the audience.
-Finally, both men are ultimately punished for their misdeeds, but with a bit of a happy ending, or it at least feels like a happy ending to the audience (Walt gets justice on those who wronged him and accepts death, but on his terms/Jimmy is happier in prison than he ever was living as Gene).
