Why are bettas so difficult to keep alive?
Post Body

Last night, we were forced to euthanize our sweet boy. He had developed dropsy, and his suffering was too much. It was the second time we got a betta, and both of them lasted about a year. We try very hard with them… try to medically intervene appropriately, give them everything they need, but I’m starting to think I just shouldn’t have bettas. I must be bad at keeping them alive.

I know there’s a million things to discuss from tank environment and water conditions to diet. But does anyone have thoughts on this? Similar experiences?
