Unilateral Popeye

Post Body

Hi there, my girlfriend and I have a sweet betta named Boo who we have had for almost a year.

2 weeks ago my girlfriend noticed slight swelling and a small white streak under Boo’s right eye which has ballooned in size. He can not see out of this right eye at all and has zero reaction from it. His other eye is perfectly normal and he reacts to everything via that eye.

Our tank parameters are perfect regarding PH, Ammonia, Nitrates, and Nitrites.

Considering the unilateral nature of the popeye, we are almost certain it is not bacterial. That being said, would it hurt to use an antibiotic such as Kanaplex just as a possible remedy or would it be useless? We are at a loss of what to do.

We understand that it may take time to heal as well, but what is considered a “normal” amount of time for unilateral popeye to heal?

Boo is still eating normally however, his energy is no longer as zippy nor does he create giant bubble nests like he used to (in fact there have been no bubbles:( ).

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated, we just want our little Booboi back to his happy self.

Thank you!
