Post Body

hi, so i have always adored betta fish and over the last year i have educated myself with everything i possibly could with male betta fish. i had purchased a male betta who was perfect and healthy, BUT i was one of those betta fish people. i am ashamed to say i kept him in a 2 gallon tank with barely anything in it. no filter or heater. his health started to go downhill until i started researching for hours about everything i neglected to know about betta fish. he went from floating at the top of the tank with shredded fins and no appetite to flourishing with all his fins grown back in a beautifully planted and cycled tank. he was in a 10 gallon but he seemed to have a really rough time getting around in there due to his fins, so i moved him into a planted 2.6 and he is doing lovely. now, this is where the sorority comes in. i had been seeing betta sororities all over my tiktok and other platforms and had seen that females werent aggressive. i knew everything from the nitrogen cycle to every sickness and how to treat them, so i was sure id have no issues. i looked up lots of things about sororities, but apparently not enough. i set up my tank a couple months ago, switching from a 10 gallon to a 20 long. i had purchased a beautiful double-tail female to go in my 10 gallon before i upgraded. after i got the 20 gallon up and running for a while i decided to get more fish. i went out and got 4 more females, a black kuhli loach, and a couple ghost shrimp for cleanup. i acclimated them all and put them in the tank a couple days ago, ive been monitoring closely, looking at the tank every five seconds it seems like. ive seen that my original girl is chasing the bigger one out of the four and a smaller blue one. the blue one picks on the smallest one. the bigger one is super calm and is used to having tank mates so she isnt happy about being chased. theres also a peachy colored crown-tail who seems to have something wrong with her spine as its very crooked, but she gets around fine and everyone leaves her alone. shes super sweet and keeps to herself. the only worrying thing ive noticed is the smallest ones fins have been nipped at, but not too bad. ive been reading a lot more on it and have started to come across many horror stories about their sororities and how it just isnt a good idea. i am unsure of what to do because i already have them but i would be just heartbroken if any of my fish get attacked and killed. from what ive read, what im observing is normal and should settle down. they eat together just fine with no nipping or anything, so i think thats a good sign. thanks for reading and any tips or tricks or anything is highly appreciated!
