Best filter for a 10gal tank?

Post Body

I currently have an Aqueon quiet flow for 10gal, but the flow output is just too much for this tank. I’d like to add shrimp to it, but one side literally has depressions in the sand because of the filter, and I’ve got the water up to the brim so there’s basically no waterfall or anything. My beta doesn’t mind the current flow but she is not a fan at all of the strength the water comes out of the filter at. I also can’t find a sponge to fit the filter intake? I’m worried about shrimp getting sucked inside. I have one in there now that’s been doing well, but two others went missing (probably eaten but the filter seriously concerns me).

What are your suggestions for better filters? And does anyone have experience with sponge filters, like from Aquarium Co-Op?
