Planted tank maintenance

Post Body

Hello all! So I’ve had my betta for about 2ish months? And the tank cycled for about 2 months prior to adding him with snails initially and then shrimp after the water was ready. It’s a 5 gallon filtered and I have 2 plants in there one Is a Java fern and one I’m not sure what it is I bought it at petco to score some free snails (mistake) but it’s fairly large and leafy. Now to the question. My tank seems to maintain levels of zero nitrite, zero nitrate, and zero ammonia constantly. The lone shrimp that survived and the snails I don’t cull keep the substrate turned and clean looking and take care of algae. Do I really need to bother with water changes and gravel vacuuming? Do I need to change out the filter cartridge? I’ve read a lot of people with planted tanks say all they do is top the water off so was curious if that’s the point I’m at. Naturally I’d be doing consistent water checks but everything seems to be super stable, I’ve found the perfect feeding sweet spot, Berta is happy healthy and active so I feel like I should let the tank do it’s thing and not bother with water changes if unnecessary. Thanks in advance for any advice and responses!
