Hey guys, to sum it up: I'm 30m, lawyer, from South America, and after having worked for many years in the legal field, I decided to give a shift to my life and come to Belgium to study anthropology, since I wanted to try something different and experience different flavours of life. However, my 1-year master's classes already finished this week and things didn't go the way I expected; I neither liked my anthropology programme, nor I had a good connection with the Belgian city I lived in, and my student visa expires in early September, meaning that I need to leave the country before then.
For many different reasons, staying longer in Belgium is not an option (no chance of getting a job here; I neither speak French or Dutch, etc), my country of origin has the highest covid-related death rate in the world and the political situation is terrible over there, and most important: I still don't wanna go back to South America without having been able to experience Europe the way I wanted to.
In this regard, I wanna give Europe a second try and I think living in Berlin for a year would be very nice, however...is it feasible? What would the steps to follow be? I'd only have 12 weeks to do everything, and I guess this would be the logic?: 1) Applying to a master's in English in Berlin, 2) Getting admitted in the Programme, 3) Asking for a German Student Visa (Should I have to come back to my country for this or I could go to the German Embassy in Belgium, even thought I'm not Belgian?), 4) Getting the student visa, and, the most important part: 5) getting a job in Berlin.
Is getting a job in Berlin feasible, for a non-german Speaker? How many hours are students allowed to work in Germany, per month? How much money I could make in Berlin, a month? I'm a lawyer with 10 years of working experience, soon with an advanced master's in anthropology at the KUL (which is the highest ranked Belgian university), but I'd be willing to work in a restaurant, bar or whatever, but would that be feasible? Would that be legal? I don't know guys, what do you think? I only have 3 months to make this decision, apply to a master in Berlin, ask for a student visa, get that student visa and move to Berlin out of nowhere, because I don't know anyone there.
Do you think this move would be to risky for me or it could be worth it? I guess I can manage the educational part (getting admitted in a random English programme and also getting the student visa), but I'm quite worried about the job part, because I can't go to Berlin and spend months without having an income to survive.
Thank you!
