Paid 16.50 for 8 hour parking a few months ago, the meter took several tries before accepting my card but it showed up on my credit card statement. Got a $43 citation because the meter still read expired, and my appeal was denied because credit card statements don't show the time I paid for parking (but why would I pay for 8 hour parking before I clocked into work at 10am and then move my car somewhere else illegally??). I want to refuse to pay on principle, but don't even know how to request a hearing (the website says rip off the coupon at the bottom of my Administrative Review Liable letter - I received it as an email and no such coupon exists, and when I called for help the person just said they were telling management that I would like a hearing but didn't know anything else about how to actually request a hearing).
Kinda just wanted to rant... I'm pretty sure it'll save significant time and effort to just pay the $43 (but then that means I'll have paid $59.50 to park in the street for one day because of a janky meter lmao). What happens if I just... don't pay? The fine keeps going up, but like if I just reject City of Berkeley's reality do I get negative Berkeley citizen points or something?
Anyway, getting that citation made me mad enough to only bike in Berkeley since then :) better for the earth and my sanity yay
