After 13 Yrs on Clonazepam, I Started My Taper
Post Body

2 mg/day the entire time. Never went up or down.

I was still in college and I started having these fearful urges to leave the grocery store. Then I had a major panic attack on the highway and had to call emergency responders. I later discovered it was panic and was prescribed clonazepam. The honeymoon period was like a year and a half. I remember thinking is this what normal feels like? I was no longer anxious or worrying about things. I was able to fly, again. Took trips around the world. Did a study abroad in France.

Over the years things gradually went back to square one. I developed a fear of driving on the highway. My anxiety and panic is much worse than it was before I started taking this crap.

Discovered Benzo Buddies and developed a fear of tapering. Bought all the tools. The jewelers scale, graduated cylinders, different sizes of ml syringes for liquid tapering. I would dissolve a full dose and feel defeated because it took so much f'ing work. My doctor was never on board with any of these methods. She wanted to cut and hold .5 tabs and told me I'd never find another doctor who would go slower.

Finally found a new doctor who actually read the Ashton Manual. Had experience tapering one patient over 2 years. Thankfully a lot of the decisions have been left up to me. I initially wanted to crossover to Valium but the Ashton Manual even says clonazepam patients might find this difficult. So we put a plan together with ODT tabs.

Morning dose is now .5 tab, 1/2 .5 tab (.25), .125 ODT tab and 1/2 a .125 ODT tab. Night dose is just a 1 mg tab. So my first cut is .0625 mg.

I know this is slow and even the pharmacist was giving me dirty looks because going this slow is not very common. I just did the cut, so my anxiety is a little heightened but what else can I expect? I've been in tolerance withdrawal, so I hope I one of those lucky cases that starts to feel better further into the taper.

I also want to leave hope for those struggling to find a benzo educated doctor. It took me 13 years!

The manufacturer of my ODT tabs is Sun. They come in a regular bottle, not a blister pack. I couldn't find any info on being able to cut these but so far they cut fine. They actually cut better than my .5 tabs that are scored and meant to be cut.
