How do you explain to family members that a taper is needed

Post Body

I’m honestly tired of having to explain to family members how I literally feel like I’m going on a roller coaster with these withdrawal symptoms (I’m about 12 days into it at this point) and it got so bad that I resorted to taking 2 10mg diazepam I found yesterday, which brought some relief, and I guess my dad (whom I live with) assumed that this must mean that I’m back to normal, which is far from the Case, but he has the nerve to tell me “why do you need to go to the ER, it’s been almost 2 weeks already”, ignorantly & blatantly ignoring the fact that even the urgent care doctor today said I need immediate ER so that I can get a taper. I’m just frustrated that anytime I actually try to get better, I have to deal with ignorant people (most of the time family) who don’t understand that it’s not safe to quit some drugs cold turkey. Its honestly exhausting and sad how a lot of us addicts have to continually explain this type of shit, then get undermined in our recovery by legitimately ignorant people, it’s like a spit in the face at our recovery. I just think it’s insane because I’ve explained to him numerous times how it’s not safe to do this and all he seems to think about is “oh, so now you need to get more pills again”, even after the doctor wrote me an ER letter and I’ve shown him that these withdrawals last a long time, he still has the nerve to ask why I need to go and basically is saying that I should continue to cold turkey.
