New doctor is willing to keep prescribing me clonazepam as long as I feel I need it. How do I start tapering in the meantime while still being prescribed?

Long story short - my last doctor cut me off with no warning. I found a new doctor and they are very understanding of the fact I cannot just be cut off and go CT. I told them I would still like to taper and they basically shrugged their shoulders and said "whatever, just let me know what you're doing though". I feel kind of blessed and also worried cause I do NOT want to start taking these too often again.

My plan was to start tapering regardless. Even if it seems like I will be having this prescription for awhile longer, I'm going to start taking it less each week and save the rest for tapering purposes and/or future rainy days.

I guess my question is: how should I taper off of 0.5mg clonazepam per day and would it be a good idea to save the extras without letting my doctor know? I think they are expecting me to be taking it every day still so I could probably have a bunch I can save up throughout my time with them. That's the addict part of my brain speaking.
