Can a psychiatrist script benzos over a telehealth visit?

I have my first psychiatrist visit coming up. I was referraled from a primary doctor who has me on Xanax. The office who sets appointments said the visit was virtual. When I was in California and I had to get a psychiatrist, they scripted me Xanax like I was on but my first visit was in person, and the rest were virtual.
