vet is anti raw diet
Post Body

Hi everyone! Just a question for those of you who feed raw.

I have 2 bengals, an 11 month old girl and a 3 month old boy. at the recommendation of the breeder and from our own research, we’ve been feeding them raw, and it’s gone great. we home make the meals every week and are careful to make sure the ratios are appropriate. the cats love it, and I don’t think they’d eat anything different at this point (aside from the scraps of food they steal from my dinner every day lol)

with both of my kitties, the first time I took them to the vet he made it clear that he isn’t into the whole raw food thing, which is fine, i’m confident that it’s the right thing for us. but his main thing was that he recommends feeding a “mix of wet and dry food” because he “doesn’t want them to get very big, like over 10 pounds, as cats over 10 pounds are more likely to have medical issues”

first of all, i’m pretty sure if I don’t even feed these two they’ll end up bigger than 10lbs. they’re just big cats by nature, obviously. and second, in my experience, kibble-fed cats are just eating nonstop all day and I know plenty of cats that appear very overweight who aren’t eating raw. where is the idea that a raw diet will cause them to be overweight coming from? has anyone else experienced a vet situation like this? it just seems like he doesn’t know much about the breed. unless i’m missing something.

thanks for taking the time to read this far! cat tax attached of course.
