I've always been into characters that used their brains to get one over on other people to get ahead. This started out with David (of giant killer fame) and Bugs Bunny and extended to John Constantine and Saul Goodman. This interest gave me a fascination with con artists and snake oil salesmen, but in an anthropological way if that makes any sense. So I was naturally drawn to Behind the Bastards due to Robert Evans' interest in con men.
And something that I can't help but notice is how susceptible this country is to con jobs. From a group of slave holders that wrote "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness," which even then only applied to certain classes of men, and exclusively men to LRH to a career criminal and particularly dull-witted grifter and con artist that was elected president. And like...what is going on here? Why is this country so gullible and prone to being conned?
