I had posted before on how I am new to running & recently ran my first 5k event, this past Sunday. https://www.reddit.com/r/beginnerrunning/s/dZqjSvCc26
I had couple of rest days (Mon, Tue) & decided to run a 5k today. Well, Monday I walked for abt 4 miles & Tuesday I walked for about 1.5 miles.
And let me tell you, I was so not feeling it today when i started running. Did my usual start at a slow pace and man, was feeling so tired within 5 mins. I also made the cardinal sin of checking my pace (was abt 16mins per mile) and mentally compared that to my 5k event pace (abt 12 mins per mile) and that did not help.
I had to really force myself to think beyond speed, pace, and numbers and just try to tell myself to complete the run today. At abt the 1.5 mile mark (where I usually turn around), I suddenly started to feel a lot better and I could feel my pace much higher, but I was so much in control of my breathing and feeling comfortable. I dared myself to not check my pace at that time.
Good news! I completed the run. My first 600m was abt 6 mins, the next 4.6km was abt 30 mins.
So overall, a very successful run (by my standards), and improvement of few mins compared to my 5k event timing (39mins) from last Sunday.
