How do you know what to do and where to start?

I’m 29 M, never really been a consistent in any form of workout other than a few years playing football. Because of this I’m not in shape but have been at the gym now for about 2 months. I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing other than a lot of cardio to lose weight (that’s the goal right now to drop a few stone).

How did everyone start off knowing what to do in the gym?

Do I get a PT for a few weeks then go alone… do I just google it? (Everything I see is a contradiction), is there a YouTuber or influencer I should be watching?

Any advice is much appreciated
