Wrist pain in cross body hammer curls?

Recently I started doing cross body hammer curls for a bit of variation, doing 5 sets of 6-10 reps per arm. The first set normally goes well and I can somewhat easily hit 10 reps per arm, but in the following sets I get these awful pains in my wrists that make it very difficult to do the exercise. I'm not sure if this is intentional or if I'm doing something wrong. Is it something natural that will go away as I keep training, or is it possible there is something wrong with my form?
