I have never had the pleasure, until yesterday, of trying a Beer Float. I've seen some reviews of stout beer floats and have been wanting to try it, and then yesterday at the Goose Island Tap Invasion @ Binnys in Chicago, they offered large cups of vanilla and chocolate ice cream for $1 to be had with any beer.
We tried vanilla and chocolate ice cream with Big John, BCBVS and BCBCS. My girlfriend was most excited to try chocolate and BJ, and I thought vanilla and BCBVS would take the cake. We were both wrong. Every variation was fantastic, but holy crap BCBCS vanilla ice cream was just mindblowing. I am not much of a reviewer, but this was maybe the best beer I've ever had. Super sweet though, and as you can see in the picture we wasted some at first as the ice cream foams up the beer like crazy.
I don't know why but almost no one else was taking advantage of the ice cream float offer. Maybe they wanted to remember every last sip of the already delicious beers unchanged, but I feel that most people were missing out. It was fun and so so tasty, I highly recommend this if you ever get a chance. I believe it would work great with most heavy stouts, but I wouldn't mind experimenting with other styles.
