For those new to this wonderful area I post this just as a reminder, not to cause anxiety. The Beaverton area actually fares pretty well with large storm systems. If you live near a river and aren't up higher than that river, you might be a little concerned, but for the most part we are OK.
They are saying 3-6 inches of rain over the next couple days. What I've seen in Beaverton when that happens is that you get some street flooding in low areas, but we have lots of streets. Some power outages due to accidents or trees falling down. So just be prepared for power outages and cold weather. Blankets and stuff. Have place to go if your home gets too cold.
Biggest thing is when you are out there driving in the rain, take is slow, don't hit your breaks too hard, and leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Be prepared for the vehicles on the other side of the road to push water, in big waves, onto your windshield! Also do NOT try to drive through big bodies of standing water, as you might get stranded.
Be safe out there everyone. Ultimately this storm will really help us out as we have had a dry February. And the ground is not frozen, so the soil should absorb a lot of it which is great!
