Beauty Myths and Misconceptions that People Fall for?
Post Body

What are some of the beauty myths or misconceptions you know of that a lot of people still believe to this day? Mine are:

• “natural skincare is better” I used to fall for this too, not because of the fear of chemicals but because botanical extracts are a complex mixture of good compounds, which is true but there’s also more to the picture. Plant extracts also contain irritants and allergens that can trigger inflammation and adverse reaction.

• “There’s not that much difference between SPF 30 and SPF 50, or SPF 50 and SPF 100” This is a base rate fallacy and simply not true. People only see the difference in 97% (spf 30) and 98% (spf 50) for the UVR blocked, or the difference between 98% and 99% for SPF 50 and and SPF 100. The UV blocked is not the basis since it's no longer significant (it won't affect you cause its blocked already) its the difference of the percent of UV that passes through. SPF 100 allows 1% of UV to pass while spf 50 allows 2% of UV to pass. That is double the UV you are getting or 50% more. This was also proven clinically:(https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31542406/). It took more than twice as much time for subjects who used SPF 100 to develop erythema or sunburn compared to subjects who used spf 50. Aside from that, after 5 days, 56% of participants developed sunburn on spf 50, while 7% for spf 100. That's 7 times more.
