How do I avoid my natural nails becoming translucent?

So, I'm not sure if this is a common thing or not, but I keep my nails fairly long and they become almost see-through after I shower! They get some of the whiteness back as they dry, but they just stay mostly translucent. I haven't painted them in ages so it's not remover or anything, and my diet is decent and my blood doesn't show any deficiencies.

Because it's worst after I shower I suspect that it has something to do with moisture, but rubbing lotion or coconut oil into them hasn't helped at all. Has anyone ever had to deal with this? I hate how it looks it just makes them look unkept and dirty. I hope you guys can help me out with some advice, thanks!!
