Multiplayer Different Difficulties?

I’m playing on Quest 2 and there is an option for other party members to select their difficulty, I can see it in the group UI where it indicates E/M/H/X next to their name, but it doesn’t seem to actually do anything?
Am I missing something here? What do I need to do so that everybody gets the difficulty they selected?
Sorry for the dumb question, everything online says this isn’t supported, but the posts are all a year old, and then why would they have this in the UI?
