Please consider pet insurance for your beagle. Keep finances from driving the decisions - I see this every day in the ER as a veterinarian. It's the best gift you can give to your beagle.
From 2015-2019, my now passed beagle Zuzu had $30,718.83 reimbursed for her zillions of health issues, medications, hospitalizations, blood tests, MRIs, CT scans, radiation, and chemotherapy. I was a poor student and intern during that time frame. That is a house down payment Pet insurance gave her more chances and more time.
My new beagle puppy Mochi at only 7 months of age already has had almost $900 reimbursed thanks to wellness and her appetite for foreign bodies, ear infections, skin issues and I get discounts!
There are many good pet insurance companies. Just do your research. Good companies include but are not limited to Nationwide, Pet Plan, Trupanion, Healthy Paws, Embrace. They all have different coverages and different price points. My personal puppy has Nationwide Whole Pet with Wellness as it covers 90% of wellness and sickness, which is unique among insurance plans. However, it is a pricier plan but well worth it for me personally.
There is no "best" plan. The best plan is the one that works for you and your family. What is best for all though is to have pet insurance as an emergency visit routinely costs at least $300-500 for basic outpatient care and can be as much as $5000-7000 or MORE if your dog needs ICU level care or surgery. Be prepared and you won't be left in an impossible position of treatment or considering euthanasia.
Just so we are clear no pet insurance covers pre-existing conditions! Get it before your dog has an issue
