A while ago I had an experimental online session for a few days. During this time my tool for punishment was a steel wire brush, I had to punish myself alone and on command. It is quite intimidating, especially for a complete beginner. It hurts, but probably not as bad as other impact tools. It also draws blood which is scary for a beginner. But the wounds heals pretty quick. Afterwards we discussed the brush and agreed it was effective tool, especially in an online situation. I looked around, but it doesn't seem to be an item of choice for BDSM though.
