It's impossible to make new friends

I've been trying to make new friends for a while now. And the one thing I have learned to be true - everyone is so closed off. No one is willing to talk to a new person, face to face.
It's like since you can't google me right away I must be a creep.
Why live in a populated area if you hate people this much?
