PETER S. BEAGLE created The Last Unicorn. Peter recently sued his former manager, Connor Cochran, for financial fraud and elder abuse.

Why this is here: Peter is often described as the world's greatest living fantasy author. He was based in Oakland. He was forced out of his home by the greed of the man he is suing.

VICE NEWS covered this. And much worse came out about a decade of abuse and cheating done in Peter's name by Connor Cochran. (Google “Last Unicorn Fraud”.)

Cochran is holding the Last Unicorn and Peter's rights hostage. The movie was made in 1982 and had nothing to do with him. It has a cult following, and there has been a lot of talk about remaking it (which isn't happening because of Cochran), so it was a target for greed.

It started in the early 2000's. Peter was having bad luck after previous cheating. Cochran saw he was vulnerable and took control of his career by promising to fix it. He used sympathy ploys about Peter to get fan support. Cochran used that to take the movie from previous owners in 2012. But then he made things worse.

Cochran squeezed the movie for as much money as he could, touring it everywhere while selling massive amounts of merch. He dragged Peter (age 77) along to sign everything while making him sleep on couches. A witness reported: THE TRUTH ABOUT CONNOR COCHRAN AND WORKING ON THE LAST UNICORN TOUR.

Much of the merch that Cochran "pre sold" never existed. He failed to deliver to many customers for over a decade. He made his living entirely from scamming Peter and his fans. It's still happening, and if people aren't told, it's going to keep happening.

Peter watched Cochran build personal properties while telling everyone there was no money to fulfill the promises. But Peter was kept poor. He's just a writer who doesn't own the operation, so it wasn't easy to complain. Even worse, Cochran was gaming the system to take properties, threaten people into silence, and sue anyone who complains. Cochran's partner for legal attack is a disbarred lawyer who lost his license for robbing literary estates.

Now Cochran is taking money from Peter's fans this way, to pay for increasing abuse and retaliation against Peter in court. And they don't know it.

After Peter sued, he was countersued with claims that he was feeble-minded and his lawyer was the real abuser. Cochran got Peter’s kids on his side for money. But medical evidence shows Peter's mind is sound and they are lying. The court threw out the kids' attempt to take conservatorship and threw out the attack against Beagle’s lawyer for representing him.

The Last Unicorn Movie tour investors also sued Cochran for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from them.
