Non Standard Lance/unit sizes?

Post Body

I was thinking about how the clans use 5 mechs to the IS 4 and was wondering why they would have changed from how the Star League did it as they venerated them so much. Then I suddenly realized I had no idea if the Star League actually used size 4 lances. They could have used size 5, I can't remember any proof of any hard numbers on their lance sizes, however I'm fairly sure they were size 4 back then.

That got me wondering did the Star League ever try any other sized lances? Was there an argument for another sized lance in the known lore? Or did the Star League just decide 4 was the magic number and the houses and the periphery just fell in line? I realize interstellar movement of troops and having bays in multiples of 4 probably did a lot for that just to make it easier.

Then you have the Clans with 5 and Comstar with 6. Does anyone know why from the lore they decided to use those numbers? Again with interstellar movement it seems strange that they would have retooled their dropship industrial base to build things with multiples of those number bays. Then again the Clans were rebuilding everything from scratch, and Comstar had the money to do it, so maybe?

Also are there any other factions in the known lore that use non standard sizes? And any reasons given for why? All that is coming to mind is that I remember something about a periphery state liking having much overstuffed infantry units but I can't remember if that was the Turians or the Marian hegemony. Or I might have that wrong.

Looking forward to hearing interesting lore. Thanks in advance
