I...

  1. Reseated my CPU with new thermal paste.
  2. Hand-brushed the fans clean.
  3. Found two air filters in my case I never knew about and cleaned them.
  4. Re-seated my 1080ti because I had to in order to reseat the CPU.

I used to get a freeze-frame crash in the middle of a match ~70% of the time. Luckily, if it was gonna happen, it usually happened not too long after joining.

In my case, it had been a few years since I reseated my i7-8700K which was running @ 4.8GHz, overclocked from 3.7GHz. When I finally did unseat my processor, the top end was completely dry, no paste. The thermal paste had all melted over time and pooled at the bottom of the CPU heatsink. You could see a discoloration on the processor where the thermal paste had been missing from the crazy temperatures I'm sure it was reaching.

In my defense, BF2042 was the only game causing me crashing issues, but it's also a CPU destroyer, so it made sense. Also, my system is overall more stable now! Thanks BF2042 for helping me isolate a system instability!
