Swollen lithium ion

As the title suggests I have a swollen lithium ion battery that I need to dispose of but have been told the only place that takes them near me won’t take it until mid October. So I need to safely store it which the internet has basically suggested a metal container and sand. My question for anyone that might have suggestions is would a metal popcorn container and sand be sufficient or is there more to storing it than that? TLDR:need to store a swollen lithium ion battery, sand in a popcorn tin?
