Rechargeable Batteries for August Wi-Fi Lock

Ok, this lock burns thru regular Lithium CR123 batteries, and it's getting expensive replacing them. August says they should last 3 months, but I'm finding it's closer to 3 Weeks.

August does not recommend using rechargeable batteries as they have "limited capacity".

I don't mind replacing them, but I do mind buying new batteries every couple weeks. The batteries labeled as rechargeable CR123's all seem to have only 450 mAh , vs 1550 mAh for the Alkalines.

I just read an article that stated that 16340 batteries are exactly the same size and I'm finding 16340 Lithium ion rechargeables in 2800mAh capacity.

Should these work or will they damage the lock? Will the extra .5v each be an issue (x 2 since there are two batteries).
