Need some clarification regarding the wedding and around it

So, I used to read Batman pretty regularly, and stopped after the Batman 50 issue where they were supposed to get married. I just looked into what's been happening in Batman comics and learned that they did finally tie the knot, but then supposedly they didn't in the mainline Batman comic (retcon or self contained story). One article said that issue 50 was in the 'regular universe' but the continuation in Bat/Cat was actually a 'different' universe (What?). Can someone clarify this, as I'm quite confused.
