Interested in playing bassoon!

Hi, I'm a current junior in high school and I have been playing the b flat clarinet for 7-8 years. My band director suggested that I try out the school bassoon to see if I like it.
What are some things that I should know before playing? For example, I know that my fingers need to be able to reach the holes (this may be a problem).
Secondly, what reed should I buy? I usually play 3.0 strength reeds on the clarinet, and I'd prefer if the reed was under $25 USD.
