I am really in need of wisdom from fine folks here! I recently got back into collecting and I have been focusing on Ken Griffey Jr. rookie cards. Here's the issue.
ALL reputable and venerated sites and grading services, including Beckett, PSA, CGC, TCDB, and numerous others, label the year of the card for Score Scoremasters as 1989 set. As such, Ken Griffey Jr's #30 Scoremasters card is considered a rookie card.
However, the back of the card states that the copyright year is 1990. To add more confusion, the sealed box is labeled "1989."
All these industry movers are not fools. I assume that they labelled Scoremasters as 1989 set because it was released in the year 1989. Beckett also states on its FAQ that copyright years are not always right.
Which is the industry-accepted practice? Is the Year issued the industry-accepted "Year of Cards?"
