Existence is pain.
Whether it's an organizational failure or just a bunch of guys deciding to simultaneously and coincidentally all have bad seasons in the same year, the 2021 Mets position players who were supposed to combine to be an above-average offensive team have largely fizzled. It's hard to know who to point the finger at for the team's collective failure to hit, but I do think it's fair to say this isn't (at least mostly) a failure of roster construction. The Mets put a lot of talented guys onto the 2021 roster and they're just...not playing like talented guys this year.
