Zack Cozart: THE MAN WHO DIDN'T EXIST
Post Body

Two outs. Bottom of the 9th. Down 5-4. Speedy Billy Hamilton on 1st.

With the pitcher slot coming up, Zack Cozart pinch hits. He takes a ball, then on the 2nd pitch, Billy is caught stealing, game over.

So what happens to Cozart in the box score? He didn't finish an at-bat. He didn't play in the field. He didn't run the bases. He wasn't announced as a pinch hitter then subbed out to get a platoon advantage. It's almost as if.....he were...a g-g-g-ghost?

This sort of thing seems to happen about once a year. The last time was in 2015 when pinch hitter David DeJesus was standing at the plate for a game-ending wild pitch; before that was Greg Dobbs in 2013 on another wild pitch.

Here's what I believe to be a complete list of ghost players going back to 1913 assuming I did the search right
