Since /r/HistoricalWhatIf is private now, and this is baseball history related, I decided to posit this to, well, /r/baseball.

According to Wikipedia, the Black Sox Scandal brought relations between then-AL President Ban Johnson and then-owner of the White Sox Charles Comiskey to a breaking point. So much so that the National League extended an invitation to the White Sox, along with the Red Sox and Yankees, to join the National League.

The NL also unveiled plans for a twelfth, Detroit-based team around this time.

If the teams had accepted, and the Detroit team brought into existence, how would the history of the MLB have been affected, if at all?
