Had a guest drink 4 glasses of wine tonight as well as food over a 5 hour period. Bill came to about $80. I get her bill and had already offered a taxi, and when I go to collect she just says "What if I can't pay for that?"
"Then I'd need to phone the police."
She then said "Well, I can't pay for it." and casually sat there.
I cleared up with a few people and reached out to the owner to let him know/confirm a call to the police and then called the cops on her.
The weird thing is, she sat there for about 30 minutes while the police made their way to the bar. I confirmed a few times with here that the police had been called, and that she in fact wouldn't pay.
The police showed up, I think they expected her to be gone, but she was sitting at the bar waiting for them. She lied a little bit about offering to pay, which they called her on when they said "can you just pay now?" and then arrested her when she wasn't able to produce payment.
This lady was in her late 40s, dressed nicely with her hair recently done, and talked about her nail appointment (which she later said she cancelled to stick around for trivia) - no signs of being homeless or super shady. She could have EASILY walked away on the bill at any point with very little forethought as I was the only one running the bar.
Super weird experience overall.
