Are Johns Emotions Real?

I am just curious if anyone knows or has seen interviews with past rescues wether or not the emotions John has shown are real?

It seems like as the series goes on he has become more and more emotional with certain bars that he rescues. Heck in later seasons I think he’s actually doing some of this stuff to get a hug. It legit seems like he wants hugs.

I hope the emotions are real. I used to love Kitchen Nightmares until I saw interviews the Gordon barely interacts with the people when not filming or just doesn’t care.
