Overview and Parts List:
Hi bapcsalesaustralia,
I’m currently planning a 1440p gaming build with monitor based on this suggested buildapcforme plan.
The budget is maximum $1800 for both monitor and tower, but I’d prefer the paying less if the jump between one component to another is not good value (i.e. there is a large jump in price between the 6700XT and 6800/6800XT in the used market). I plan to play games such as RDR2, Spider-man and God of War at 1440p 60FPS and older games like Halo MCC, Mass Effect Legendary Edition and Fallout New Vegas at 1440p high refresh rate (100-120FPS ). I also want to play Cities Skylines with mods and DLC, which is why I selected 32GB RAM.
I’ve made some alterations to the original suggested PC Part Picker list based on what is available to me in the used market and with some Black Friday deals released so far, resulting in this build plan.
Notes for the parts list:
- · I already have an SSD, which is why it is omitted
- · I am looking into getting the 6700 XT used if there are no significant falls in price for new 6700 XTs.
Any improvements to this plan are greatly appreciated.
Questions:
- Is it better to get the 750W PSU or the 650W PSU for future upgradability? Or is there a cheaper PSU option you would recommend?
- The main reason I got the MSI B550M VDH-Wifi is that it includes Bluetooth for my controller out of the box and that MSI boards generally have good VRMs according to Hardware Unboxed. But, given that it has been increasing in price, is getting a non-wifi motherboard and then getting a dongle more cost effective?
- In terms of the case, I’ve been considering whether to cut costs here and go with a microATX case (the Versa H18) or go with the full ATX cases like the Deepcool CG560 ($90) or CK560 ($125) that also include more fans and USB-C? Which is worth it?
- I’ve been tossing up between the Gigabyte G27Q and the Dell S2721DGF. The Dell seems to have more connectivity in terms of ports and supposedly has less ghosting, so is it worth waiting for that monitor to go on sale below $400? I have a 1080p monitor that I can use in the meantime.
